The Faculty of German Engineering Education and Industrial Management (FDIBA) is the largest and oldest German training project in Eastern Europe and is supported by both the Bulgarian and the German side. The FDIBA at the TU Sofia was founded in 1990 based on the agreement between the governments of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Bulgaria. The first academic year at FDIBA started in 1991. In 2000 financial sponsorship through the DAAD program „Academic Reconstruction of Eastern Europe“ enabled students from south-eastern European countries to study at FDIBA.

Dr. Mitko Vasilev of the
German-Bulgarian Chamber of
Industry and Commerce was conferred
the honorary title “Doctor Honoris Causa”.
Prof. Ralf Karl Hesse, entrepreneur,
Honorary Consul of the Republic of
Bulgaria and representative of
PeRa ETC-ing GmbH, was conferred
the honorary title “Doctor Honoris Causa”.
Prof. D.Sc. Eng. Marin Marinov
was elected as Dean of FDIBA.
Prof. Dr. Michael Göke of FOM Essen,
lecturer in economics, was conferred
the honorary title “Doctor Honoris Causa”.
Dr. Jörg Schenk of the Embassy
of the Federal Republic of Germany
was conferred the honorary title
“Doctor Honoris Causa”.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vasil Galabov was elected
as Dean of FDIBA.
Haro Möwes, sponsor of doctoral
education at the FDIBA Doctoral School,
was awarded the title
“Doctor Honoris Causa”.
The first cohort in the new
programme “Business Informatics”
has been admitted and has commenced
its studies in cooperation
with Otto von Guericke
University Magdeburg.
A regular audit of the project
“German Faculty at the Technical
University of Sofia” has been carried
out by the DAAD.
Prof. Norbert Burchard of the
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology,
who has been teaching at FDIBA
since its establishment,
was awarded the title “Honorary Professor”.
Conferral of the title “Honorary Professor” upon Dr. Matthias Kluwe of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, who has been teaching at FDIBA since its establishment.
The first cohort in the new
programme “Mechatronics and
Information Technology” has been
admitted and has commenced its
studies in cooperation with KIT.
Visit of the Vice President for Innovation
and International Affairs at KIT,
Prof. Dr. Thomas Hirth, to the
Technical University of Sofia and FDIBA.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alexander Tsenov
was elected as Dean of FDIBA.
The “Formula Student” team is
established with active financial
and consulting support from FDIBA,
involving students from the Faculty.
The first race car is developed.
(The team has won several
prestigious awards at international
student competitions. Currently,
the team has two race cars.)
Conclusion of a new cooperation
agreement between the
Technical University of Sofia and
the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
aimed at continuing the project in the
field of General Mechanical
Engineering education.
Admission of the first PhD candidates to
the doctoral school of FDIBA.
Welcoming of the first Bulgarian
FDIBA students at Otto von
Guericke University Magdeburg.
Conclusion of an agreement with Otto
von Guericke University Magdeburg for
the issuance of double degrees in
the programme “Computer Science”.
Accreditation of the Faculty

Prof. Dr. Iliya Boyadzhiev was
elected as Dean of FDIBA.
Prof. Dr. Kamen Veselinov was elected

Building 10 of the Technical University

allocated to FDIBA for educational purposes.
